Our story
Why we built Strathlon, what the name actually means, and why it was tested on one person, its founder, for months before anyone else ever saw it.
Why "Strathlon"?
The name blends three words we wanted the product to stand for: Strength, Athletics and Longevity.
Strength is the training core: proper strength training that steps up in stages. Athletics is the sport-specific layer on top of that foundation. If you play a sport, your schedule and your calorie targets follow it, across 42 of them, and choosing Sports Performance as one of your goals tunes your gym work to it too. Playing a sport is optional: the same solid training and nutrition works just as well on its own. Longevity is the point of all of it: training and eating in a way that holds up for years, well past any 30-day crash.
Built by its own guinea pig
Strathlon started as a personal problem. Earlier this year I took some genuine time away from a demanding career (my first real break in years), and the honest truth is my own fitness had slipped. After years playing cricket to a decent standard, the last couple of seasons had quietly got away from me. Getting back into it was a big part of why I stepped back at all.
So I built myself a proper plan (training I'd actually stick to, with the calories, protein, carbs and fat to match), and then I became the guinea pig. Using just my own app, I've gone from 82.7 kg down to 76.3 kg* (a steady, sustainable pace, eating normal, everyday meals), training three days a week around my own dodgy knee and hip, with visibly more muscle definition, including my abs, and I'm back playing cricket feeling fitter and more durable than I have in years. Every feature in Strathlon exists because I needed it first. It was tested on me long before it reached anyone else.
Built for anyone, tuned further if you play a sport
The more I used it, the more I wanted one app that handles proper training and nutrition together, in one place, for everyone, from first-time gym-goers to club players.
My wife was one of the very first people to try it, from day one. She wanted something simple: a straightforward training and nutrition plan she'd actually stick to, and she's lost 10 kg* over a similar stretch. That's Strathlon working exactly as it should for general fitness: solid training, and nutrition that matches her real day.
The sport-specific side still matters: I kept watching lads at the cricket club pick up injuries that were largely preventable, and that shaped how the training adapts around real injuries. But that's a layer on top of a genuinely good general fitness and nutrition app, built for everyone.
My wife and I still use Strathlon every day. We’re its main users: we log our workouts in it, track our food and macros in it, and use it to stay in shape. On a gym day I log each set with my heart rate live on my Apple Watch. I snap a photo of a meal to log it, though most of mine are regulars that add themselves each day, like my breakfast of yoghurt and fruit with a morning latte, which makes it easier. I check the day’s targets before dinner, try to stay within my macro targets most days, and ask the coach when my day changes.
That makes us its most demanding users. Every tweak and every update starts from a real gym-goer’s day, usually ours: a screen that could be quicker between sets, a number we wanted to see sooner, a meal that should take one tap. Each one is aimed at making that day easier.
So Strathlon is built and refined every day by people who train with it, and you can feel that in how it works: quick between sets, clear at a glance, and made for a real training day.
Strathlon is one app for fitness, nutrition, health and sport on iPhone and Apple Watch. It builds your workout plan and a nutrition plan that follows it, tracks your progress, and its built-in AI coach gives you tailored guidance and advice. If you play a sport, your workout plan, your nutrition plan and your coach all factor it in.
